ESA Summer of Code in Space (SOCIS) is a program run by the European Space Agency, offering students the opportunity to contribute to space-related open source software. Rugged has been selected for this year’s edition.
Our student, Sergio Esteves, has completed his task which was to implement atmospheric refraction support in Rugged. This work has been reviewed, completed and merged into the master branch. Is is now available to all Rugged users.
For now, a simple model has been set up, using multiple atmospheric layers, each one with its own refractive index. The framework allows other models to be used, including user-specific models for some observation missions.
