Re: [Orekit Users] Kalman Filter

Mr. Grossman,

Yesterday, thesis report documents by Steve Taylor (Semianalytical Satellite Theory and Sequential Estimation, 1981) and Zach Folcik (Orbit Determination Using Modern Filters/Smoothers..., 2008) were added to the Orekit forge.

Both of these documents relate to Kalman Filters for the estimation of the DSST mean elements from observations.

These documents predate the Orekit Kalman Filter and they may not help you understand the Orekit software but they may provide good general background on the KF.

Subject: [Orekit Users] Kalman Filter

I am trying to "reverse engineer" the OreKit Kalman filter orbit estimator. I
am very familiar with Kalman Filters but a newbie to OreKit. Specifically, I
am trying to understand what parameters are being estimated beyond the PV or
orbit elements. I find it a bit difficult to work through the implementation.

Do you have any papers or literature you can point me to that served as the
basis for the design? What was the performance of the design?

Thanks.
